Behind the scenes they’re all part of the same group, but split between Scotland and Japan they produce whiskies across a wide spectrum of flavour. From the elegance of Auchentoshan and sweetness of Yamazaki and Hibiki, to the smoke of Bowmore, rich malt of Glen Garioch and grassiness of Hakushu, they offer a great range of drams. With delights such as the Glen Garioch 1971, Yamazaki 1984 and both White and Gold Bowmore appearing in previous years, we can’t wait to see what they bring along this time.

This brings us a hair’s breadth from 50 whisky brands on display, with still more almost ready to announce over the coming months.

He will be joined by Balvenie Global Brand Ambassador Sam Simmons to run through six tasty drams, including some from the start of David’s tenure as well as those that have only appeared quite recently. From the 8 year old 1970s ‘leather label’, through the travel retail only edition of the PortWood 21, the 40 year old and the fabled first batch of Tun 1401, we’ll be showing off an incredible range of drams.

The class will take place on the Sunday of the show, 6th October, at 1pm and tickets will be £50 each. They’ll go on sale at 1pm on Friday April 19th. You can find full details of the tasting, including the whisky line-up and a link to buy tickets, over on the masterclass’s page.

However, G&M aren’t coming alone. Along with whisky from their own Benromach distillery they’ll also be showing off bottlings from Tullibardine, The English Whisky Company, India’s Amrut and, for the first time at the show, The New Zealand Whisky Company.

With Gordon & Macphail on board we’re now up to 42 brands at the show, and we still have some well known names hiding in the wings waiting for a few last pieces to fall into place.

Our first masterclass was announced last week, selling out in under three hours, and we have three more almost ready to go – information on those, new exhibitors and everything else going on at the show will be appearing soon.

We thought our Talisker masterclass was a bit special and we’re happy to see that you agreed, with the tickets selling out in just two and half hours.

Both have been reinvigorated since coming under the banner of the BenRiach Distillery Company, and Billy Walker’s team are still innovating and developing the offerings of both distilleries. With BenRiach’s cask experimentation and GlenDronach’s famed single cask releases they were a hit at the 2012 show and we expect that they’ll go down even better this year.

This brings us up to 35 whisky brands who will be attending so far, with 7 months still to go – we’ve got more in the wings and we’ll be announcing them as soon as they confirm. In the meantime keep an eye on our Twitter feed, Facebook page and the website, where you’ll hear as soon as we have anything to tell you.

Last year the main ‘complaint’ that we heard was that there was too much to see at the show in only one day. While this is a nice problem to have, we’ve listened and have dropped the price of weekend tickets from £189 to £155 to give more people a chance to get in for both days. And to reward the show fans who jump in early each year we’ve got a limited number of early-bird weekend tickets available at just £139 – only £40 more than buying a day ticket!

With 34 brands already signed up to exhibit, a stack more in the wings almost ready to be announced, a new layout for the show, four impressive masterclasses and some very exciting new ideas that we can’t announce yet all on the cards, this year’s TWE Whisky Show is going to be the best yet.

We’ll be posting here on the site whenever we have something new to announce, as well as on our Facebook and Twitter feeds, so keep an eye out for news – there’s lots coming…

Vinopolis have completed their refurbishment, opening up new spaces for us to fill with more whisky than ever before, and we will be continuing the traditions of previous years with masterclasses, special guests, food matching, the Show Brasserie and, as ever, a great selection of whiskies. The Dream Drams will be returning, with our exhibitors bringing some of their finest, rarest and most sought after whiskies to taste, and more new show highlights will be announced as we move towards October.

You can find out what happened last year over in the ‘TWE Whisky Show 2012′ section of the website, and we’ll have a video of the weekend up shortly.
